Panorama Resort announced this week it will install a new chairlift for novice and intermediate skiers—the first major infrastructure installment at the BC ski resort in more than 10 years.
The new Doppelmayr Eco-Drive fixed grip quad will open in time for the 2014/15 ski season. It is the sixth chairlift in Panorama’s fleet, connecting riders from the base of the mountain to wide and gentle trails like Ski Tip Way and Stringer. It will enhance the ski-in/ski-out flexibility of Trappers Ridge, Panorama’s newest residential neighborhood, and will be part of Panorama’s effort to improve its skiing for young and learning skiers.
Starting in April, Doppelmayr will oversee the installation on behalf of Panorama Mountain Village. The chair boasts an uphill capacity of 1500 people per hour, with a length of 788 metres (2,585 feet) and a vertical rise of 163 metres (535 feet).
“This is the first significant new infrastructure on the mountain in more than 10 years,” says Steve Paccagnan, President and CEO of Panorama Mountain Village, “In addition to the installation of the quad chair, we’re also improving the current novice ski zone. The overall result will be a space perfect for young families and novice skiers with terrain that’s all about progressive learning and fun in the snow. The next phase will see the development of a first-class learning centre.”
Panorama reports the chairlift will be ideal for summer activities as well. Paccagnan notes, “The new lift opens endless opportunities to enhance our summer operation. We’re looking at downhill and cross-country mountain bike terrain, rope courses, zip lines and unique wedding venues.”
Panorama Mountain Village says it will also expand its modern snowmaking system to cover the area serviced by the new chairlift. The machine-made snow will ensure perfect coverage through the winter season.
“This is just one of many exciting developments underway at the resort. The new Greywolf Golf Course clubhouse opens in summer and Phase 1 of the Trappers Ridge residential subdivision is already 80% sold. There’s real momentum here, it’s an exciting time to be at Panorama,” Paccagnan said.
