Hi everyone, I am Craig and here is my Instructor’s Journey!
I started working at Duck Mountain Ski Area when I was 16. I wasn’t much of a skier then and so I hired on as a Liftie and a Ski tech in the rental shop. It is a great job but I could tell right away that the guys and girls that have the most fun were in the Ski School. Playing in the snow with the kids and helping new guests learn to carve up the mountain seemed way more interesting than loading t-bars and cranking on bindings.
So I got my first chance to teach some newbies the basics when the manager needed an extra hand with a school group. It wasn’t too long until I was a regular on the Ski School side of the mountain.
So off I went to get qualified. Here is where you can get started! www.snowpro.com
Now it was about this time that there was a new sport becoming common on the slopes. Snowboarding! (Yes, I am that old) It was irresistible. I couldn’t wait to learn how! But there was nobody teaching then and learning to snowboard was long and painful. So when CASI came on the scene I knew I had to learn to be a snowboard instructor.
You can too. Right Here! casi-acms.com
Since then I have gone on to get my “Park Instructor” and my Evaluator 1 qualifications. I have worked all across Canada at different ski areas. Duck Mountain, Asessippi, Lake Louise, and Poley Mountain. As and Evaluator 1 I have been able to qualify new instructors at nearly all of the Ski Areas across Manitoba and Saskatchewan as well as a few in Ontario and New Brunswick!
All of this started at my local hill. Duck Mountain. And you can too. Click one of the links here to get your Instructor Journey started! The websites have all of the answers to your questions. All you need to be is 15 years old and a confident Intermediate rider or skier. (blue runs) If you need help you can get to me at manager@skitheduck.com
