If your idea of playing out of doors is all about adrenalin, seek no greater rush this season than the outdoor feats in store during GO Fest Whistler, Whistler’s Great Outdoors Festival.
A first-annual gathering slated for May 16 – 19, GO Fest Whistler is set to showcase an exhaustive — or exhausting, depending on how you look at it — roster of spirited competition suited for the high-octane crowd.
Here’s a taste: GO Enduro blends technical skills and endurance on the mountain bike trails May 16; The Great Green River Challenge, May 17, boasts on-the-water gauntlet tests for teams of six (think: flat-water slalom sprints and sumo wrestling atop a raft); quick hands and feet are required for the Whistler 5 on 5 Ultimate Frisbee Tournament, May 17 – 18; multi-sport rules with downhill (skiing and biking), running and canoeing along the River of Golden Dreams during May 18’s Great Snow-Earth-Water Race; while May 19’s Great Slush Cup caps it all off with unbelievable dress-to-impress slush pit action.
Whew.
If you do feel the need to bring it down a notch, rock out in leisurely style with The Sheepdogs, May 16, or She Stole My Beer, May 18 — both free outdoor concerts set in the heart of the village. Just enough downtime to catch your breath. After all, with all this action, you’re going to want to get up and GO.
