Asessippi Ski Area & Resort opened last week with 13 of 26 runs ready; more are expected to be open this coming weekend.
“Opening is such a great time for us, staff, cottage owners and guests all coming back to start enjoying the winter season,” said Roz Pulo director of marketing. There are approximately 200 residents now living, either part or full time, at the Cottage Cove development, which boosted estimated visitor numbers up to 1100 over the weekend. These numbers did not include the wedding guests at the Saturday wedding. “We had a lot of excitement here over the weekend,” continued Pulo.
The tweets began at 8:00 am; people waiting for the resort to open and sending in photos for a place on the 9:00 am first chair. The first ones on were Tyler Bryant, Tegan Cole, Keegan Munro and MacKenzie Munro, with Ollie, Asessippi’s favorite porcupine standing by.
The annual first competition of the season, Get Amped, took place on Saturday, December 14. Twenty freestyle skiers and snowboarders from across Manitoba and Saskatchewan did not let the -25 temperatures slow them down. The Robin’s Run terrain park is looking great with three new rails; a donkey tail, turbo tube and down-flat turbo tube, plus a log bonk.
The first wedding of the new season also took place at Asessippi on Saturday. Asessippi has been catering to weddings for just over a year and offers a unique setting for couples wanting to create a memorable occasion.
The resort also increased their number of runs by one this season, going from 25 to 26. The new run is located between Easy Street and Crusin’, just below The Plunge. The name for the run is not yet official but it has lots of snow and is open.
Asessippi Ski Area & Resort is located just west of Inglis, near the Manitoba/Saskatchewan border.
