Resort to provide facilities and talent in preparation for Canada Winter Games
Big White Ski Resort has been selected to be the official host mountain for a three-day training camp from January 23 – 25th, 2015 for the Team BC Alpine Ski Racers U16 in preparation for the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
“We are thrilled to host the camp here at Big White,” says Michael Ballingall, Senior Vice President of Big White Ski Resort. According to Ballingall the resort’s outstanding TELUS Park ski cross track, designed by Big White’s own Flynn Seddon, played a major role in the decision to hold the training camp on the mountain. The resort’s offer to host accompanying activities for athletes both on and off the slopes also tipped the scales in Big White’s favour.
The alpine team will consist of the top seven male and seven female alpine ski racers, who will be named mid-January. The team of 14 top U16 (under the age of 16) racers will be determined after a series of qualifying races, including the Western Ski Cross Series race, which will also take place at Big White.
Not only is Big White hosting the events on the slopes, but the resort is also providing top talent to fuel the camp. One of the three coaches assisting in training is Wade Christie, a local U16 coach from Big White Racers. In addition, Olympic silver medalist and Big White Racers graduate Kelsey Serwa serves as the honorary team captain.
“I remember the pride I felt representing my province as part of Team BC in 2007,” says Serwa. “I am looking forward to sharing my experiences with the 2015 athletes and cheering on Team BC to a fantastic performance!”
Team BC brings together the best athletes, coaches, managers, and mission staff in a variety of winter sports to represent British Columbia at the Canada Winter Games. Team BC will send a dedicated team of 350 athletes, including the aforementioned 14 alpine ski racers to the 2015 Canada Winter Games in Prince George, February 13 to March 1, 2015.
