New Familyworx and Expanded Kidsworx Bring Fun for the Whole Family to Crankworx
The Crankworx family is growing – new events are being added to the schedule for the August 8-17 festival in Whistler, encouraging participation and competition amongst mountain biking fans of all ages. New for this year is Familyworx, a series of family-friendly activities and demos. It joins a growing lineup of kids races that will make up Kidsworx in 2014.
“We wanted to add more ways to get the whole family involved,” says Crankworx General Manager Darren Kinnaird. “Crankworx isn’t just about the pros – we want to give talented youngsters a chance to shine and join in the celebration of this sport we all love. Kidsworx and Familyworx will ensure the Crankworx legacy is taking root in the next generation.”
Familyworx
Familyworx will bring bike-lovers of all ages together for fun events and hands-on participatory sessions. These include the Familyworx Run Bike Fun Races (August 9 and 17) and the Familyworx Pump Track Sessions (August 9-12 and 14-17). Giant will be on-hand at both with run bikes available for Crankworx’s smallest rippers to demo, along with entertainment and surprises for the whole family. For those interested in seeing a different side of the festivities, the Familyworx Photo Scavenger Hunt (August 9 and 14) will be the perfect way to experience the culture of Crankworx and explore all Whistler’s biking scene has the offer.
Kidsworx
The expansion of Kidsworx will create more opportunities for the next generation of athletes, giving young riders the chance to compete alongside their heroes. New for this year are the Kidsworx Fat Tire Crit (August 8), the Kidsworx B-Line Race (August 11), the Fox Air DH Kidsworx Invitational (August 13) and the Kidsworx XC Race (August 15). Rounding out the list is the Kidsworx Pump Track Challenge (August 16). Races and awards ceremonies will take place alongside regular scheduled events, offering a unique opportunity for young athletes to gain exposure and get a taste of the sparkle and grit of Crankworx competition.
Other activities available to kids and families daily during Crankworx are the Jeep Kids Course and the drop-in DFX sessions for little shredders hoping to work on their skills.
Familyworx sessions are free for all participants, with lots of fun prizing and bike swag to be won. Kidsworx events require registration, either advance or on site.
