A newspaper columnist in Rossland, BC, has named Senator Nancy (Tiger) Greene “the most famous Rosslander ever.”
In her history column this week in The Boundary Sentinel, Allyson Kenning has written a sweet ode to the Olympic and World Cup medallist—perhaps Canada’s best known ski racer of all time:
“…I decided to provide my readers young and old, those who remember and those who are too young to remember but might want to know anyway, with an article about our most revered athlete, Canadian darling of the sports world back in the 1960s, namesake of the lake and highway, and Conservative senator: Nancy Greene Raine – AKA Nancy Greene. Yes, she is from Rossland, and yes, she is a big deal…”
The article covers Greene’s career, including her astounding Olympic win at Grenoble, France in 1968, her work helping start both Whistler and Sun Peaks, and her entry into the Order of Canada.
