Mt. Norquay receives approval for summer and winter operations
BANFF-LAKE LOUISE, Alberta, Canada –
The ski season in Banff-Lake Louise may have only just ended, but plans for next season are already in action.
Mt. Norquay has received the green light from Parks Canada to move ahead with their long range plan that will see improvements made for both summer and winter.
Skiers and snowboarders will enjoy the plans for widened runs, while the historic Cliff House will be revamped, including a new observation deck and cable-assisted summer hiking known as a via ferrata.
Living and working in a National Park means special considerations will be made for wildlife. As part of the long range plan, Mt. Norquay must also improve habitat in the area by closing and restoring an existing ski run that is located in a wildlife corridor. The plan also includes a new transportation strategy that will see guests brought up the road to Mt. Norquay in groups to reduce the number of vehicles using the route
Mt. Norquay hopes to open the historic Cliff House this summer, while construction on the other features will start summer 2013 and plans to have the new expanded facilities ready by 2014.
