Looking for a new point of view? Ditch the 401 commute and head out to B.C.’s Powder Highway this winter to take in some of the best mountain vistas to be found anywhere. White-knuckle ski poles instead of your steering wheel with a visit to the Kootenay Region of southeastern British Columbia and a road-trip along this famous route.

The Powder Highway connects eight iconic B.C. ski towns, each with its own unique ski area catering to skiers and boarders of all abilities. There’s Kimberley’s world-renowned family and beginner-friendly groomers and the steep double-black-diamond chutes at Golden’s Kicking Horse Resort, and everything in between.

With all this thigh-burning powder under your boards, you’ll need to stop to catch your breath once in a while, which is always a good thing in this part of the world, as it lets your eyes take in the surroundings.

Jutting out from the classic Rocky Mountains across the valley from Kimberley Alpine Resort, Fisher Peak commands your attention and your imagination.

You’ll stop to consider your options from the top of Golden’s Kicking Horse Resort often takes a little longer, as the peaks of the Purcell, Selkirk, and Rocky Mountains all vie for your attention.

Fernie Alpine Resort’s recently added Polar Peak chair accesses more than just heart-pumping vertical. It also opens up a world of untouched powder that will either leave you feeling thankful for the resort’s ski lift or reaching out to one of Fernie’s cat skiing operations.

With stunning one-to-three-hour drives through jaw-dropping scenery connecting each resort, the Powder Highway allows you to swap the boardroom for endless room to board.
